Experimental facilities

In order to investigate flow phenomena in the built and natural environment, several wind tunnels are used. Most of them are layed out as atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel showing a nature-similar wind profile.

A    Atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel
Charateristics: Closed return tunnel; wind velocity 0,5 - 45 m/sec; width of measuring section: 1,5 m; length in total:
29 m; power: 90 kW.

B   Wind tunnel of "Göttingen"- type
Characteristics: Open tunnel, partially returned;
velocity range up to 60 m/sec; turbulence intensity < 0,5 %;
length of measuring section: 1,67 m; nozzle diameter: 105 x 73 cm (elliptical); length in total: 12,6 m



C   Atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel
Characteristics: "Suck-down" wind tunnel; velocity max. 20 m/sec; cross section: 2,0 m x 1,0 m; length of measuring section: 4m; length in total: 20 m

D   Stratified boundary layer wind tunnel
Charateristics: Closed return low speed wind tunnel;
10 layers to be heated separately; temperature range: 20-200°C; velocity range: 0,5 - 8 m/sec; length of measuring section: 10 m; cross section: 1,5 m x 1,5 m.
